Set Yourself Up For Success – Tidy Up Your Life

We’ve researched the top masterminds and their methods on how to achieve the highest productivity not only throughout the day but through your lifetime. Are you ready to jump in and learn something new?

Create Workspace That Sparks Joy

Whether you work remotely from the comfort of your home or you commute to work the old fashion way, you are likely to have a designated space to perform your daily tasks. Am I right? Think about how that space makes you feel. Are you subconsciously collecting unnecessary things and cluttering your desk? I want to introduce you to a mastermind in organizational skills – Marie Kondo with her KonMari Method.

Marie Kondo had written books on organizing such as The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. The KonMari method consists of gathering all of one’s belongings and going through them all one category at a time and only keeping the things that make a person happy.

Get More Sleep

Arianna Huffington explains the importance of adequate sleep and how much it matters to personal and professional success. As an entrepreneur, more accurately an ecommerce entrepreneur, you are connected 24/7 365 days a year. Is that really necessary? Arianna Huffington explains that getting enough sleep leads to a more productive, effective, joyful life. “Money and power – has led to an epidemic of burnout and stress-related illnesses, and erosion in the quality of our relationships, family life, and, ironically, our careers.”

Set aside a certain amount of time to dial in and get your work done so when it comes to proper rest you can put your phone away and not get sucked into never-ending to-do lists.

Get Dressed

I get it, you haven’t left the house in three days and you don’t plan to leave your house for the next two. You’ve been working hard to get things done and you notice that you haven’t taken a shower or changed your clothes in the last couple of days. Pjs are your life! I don’t blame you. Your dog is the only real-life interaction you’ll have all week. Ok, ok that might be a little exaggeration but there is something to be said about “Dressing For Success”.

Two researches, Adam Galinsky and Hajo Adam, wrote an article about the idea of “Enclothed Cognition” where they describe how our thinking is affected by what clothing we wear. The clothing that we wear affects how we feel, act, and see ourselves.

That being said, dress not for what you currently do but instead dress for who you want to be! I challenge you to declutter your closet, hop into the shower, put on real-people clothes (sweatpants are no longer allowed), and see your business grow!

Tackle Important Tasks 1st Thing In The Morning

As an entrepreneur, there is a never-ending list of things that need to be done. It can easily get very overwhelming. The Ivy Lee Method suggests to write down the six most important tasks that need to be accomplished tomorrow. Prioritize them in order of importance. When you wake up, concentrate only on the first task until you are finished. No distractions, no multitasking. Having one single thing to focus on leads to better overall work.

Get Yourself An Accountability Buddy

Achieving anything in life takes practice. When you get your accountability buddy you all of the sudden engage in the power of social expectations. Expectations are powerful because you don’t want to let anyone down or make a fool out of yourself.

“ASTD found that if you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed, you will increase your chance of a success up to 95%.”

Whether you like it or not, it is a good idea to engage in some specific goal-setting with someone who is going through the same stage of life. Someone who won’t question your actions and will support your desire to make a change on a personal and professional level.

Establish A “No Phone Zone”

With a constant reminder of connectivity, it’s important to set time aside to focus on things that need to get done. Don’t look at your phone, better yet leave your phone in another room. Phones alone can be very distracting but there are other things that can make you lose hours on hours of your time. Browsing Reddit, reading your favorite blog, or periodically checking Facebook statuses, that’s no Bueno. Minimize all distractions that can be toxic and harmful to your business.

Set A Specific Time To Check Email

Email is a never-ending rabbit hole that we get sucked into on a daily basis. Do you check your emails almost involuntarily? The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss suggests checking email just twice a day in order to have a more productive life. His steps are simple: monitor your email for a day to find out when your inbox is the busiest and then create a schedule around your peak hours.

Create Batching Schedule

Every time I listen to a podcast or follow an entrepreneur online I find myself hearing about the same thing – “Batching”. What is batching? It’s a process of setting a certain period of time to be creative. You can batch multiple ways, on a daily basis, monthly, or yearly. For example (your week can look different), this is how your week could look like after batching:

Establish Your Morning Routine

Every day is a gift and therefore every day should start as one. According to Claire Diaz Oritz, your ideal morning routine matters. The way you start your day sets the tone for your entire day.

Last but not least, you can create your own productivity hacks. You know yourself the best, don’t be afraid to use your own tools.
